The Student Transportation of America Education Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Student Transportation of America (STA), the third largest provider of school bus transportation services in North America. The STA Education Foundation was created in 2003 to advance the educational opportunities available to deserving high school seniors enrolled in the school districts served by STA.

Student Transportation Inc. operates a family of local companies in 11 U.S. states (California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont) and Ontario, Canada. With more than 7,000 employees, STA & STC drivers, dispatchers, safety personnel and others play a unique and positive role in the lives of the students across North America. We are committed to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve and we believe passionately that what we do makes a difference for children and their families.

The cornerstone of the STA Education Foundation’s fundraising efforts is the STA/John Finfrock Scholarship Golf Outing held in Greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The annual event honors John Finfrock, a long-time educator who has dedicated his life to serving students and Pennsylvania communities. Recipients of the scholarships are named STA/John Finfrock Scholars. Applicants are judged by their academic achievement, community service and demonstrated leadership. Since its inception, the outing has raised more than $100,000 and provided $40,000 in scholarships to high school graduates from some of the 27 Pennsylvania school districts served by STA.

In October of 2008, the Foundation was pleased to announce that it has been selected to host the PGA’s Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island, South Carolina, beginning in 2009 and continuing through 2011. This important new partnership will generate national awareness of the STA Education Foundation and greatly expand our ability to offer college scholarships to outstanding high school students. In recognition of the City of Charleston’s support in bringing this important sporting event to the Daniel Island Club, STA has created new scholarships that will be awarded to Charleston high school students who display pride in their community and choose to attend colleges and universities in the Greater Charleston area.

“We strive to be more than just the yellow school bus company. STA’s business is all about kids and our Foundation was created to help them fund the higher education opportunities they deserve.” – Peter J. Pearson, president, STA Education Foundation
